dear oscar

Oh, you silly fool. You really like that Howard Hughes, don't you? Nevermind that you don't really know the real looney. You've only met the glossy, kooky fool. Somehow I don't think you'd like the older, tissue box wearing Hughes. But that's okay. Just finally give Marty his due. It's not his best work but you know you owe him one.

You clearly like your sitcoms, too! Good ol' Hawkeye Pierce? Why, nobody's liked him since 1983! Lowell from Wings? An Oscar nominee? Splendidly unexpected! Certainly a bit of recognition for his tour de force on the barely remembered "Ned and Stacy."

Virginia Madsen's a bit tougher to figure out. What did you really like? Her work in "Candyman?" Perhaps her stunning turn in "Slam Dance?" Or are you really just trying to honor everyone who appeared in "The Hot Spot?" First Jennifer Connelly, now Virginia. Look out, Don Johnson. You're next!

Oh, and I think you've got the wrong "In Living Color" alum, too. It's supposed to be Jim Carrey. Yes, you're confused. I normally hate him. I hate Jamie Foxx more, though, and really don't want to see him fake tears again. Next year let's spread the "In Living Color" love around. Nominate David Allen Grier or Tommy Davidson. Wouldn't that be fun?

I'm just bitter that you forgot my friends. No Paul Giamatti? No Michael Moore? No Michel Gondry? But I'll watch. I'll moan when you get it wrong again. It's tough love, Oscar, but you really need to start watching better films.

I hear Jamie Foxx did a good job of doing Ray Charles. AS far as no Paul I think he was robbed. His nommination was supposed to be in the bag. I will not go there on Michael Moore and his piece of "entertainment." I will say this though on Imus they had the chick from MSNBC calling both Moore's movie and Passion a documentry. I am sorry Passion a documentry. She needs a bit more education. It will be an interesting Oscar noght this year. You I will be glued to the TV.

As always, I'm rooting for Star Wars to win Best Picture. I sure don't see any Annie Hall sequels getting in the way...
