We're midway through today's voting. Shouldn't we have a halftime score? I mean it seems like the right thing to do. I can't stand the suspense, frankly.
Maybe we could have a little intermission gala featuring a "wardrobe malfunction" by the hotter of the Bush twins? Maybe have the Stones perform? Somebody get MTV on the phone.
My line this morning was over two hours long. It was also the first time I've ever voted in a stereotypical voting booth. Michigan and Georgia always used punch cards. I had some stupid local Republican running for what might as well been Dog Catcher try to talk to me about his platform. I was having none of it. What was your experience like?

I think I spent as much time inspecting the ballot for hanging or dimpled chads as I did voting.
My stomach is in knots today but I've got a good feeling about tomorrow morning.
Posted by: Dennis on November 2, 2004 03:27 PMI've never been so thankful for a last name that starts with "O".
Columbus had advanced voting last week, the lines for that were about two-hours long.
I ask, what's the point of voting early to avoid the lines if the lines are that long?
We did not vote in advance. Today, we arrived at the Morningside Baptist Church a little after 10 am. The line was probably about 50 people long.
Then I noticed a much, much shorter line waaaaay down the hall. Over it hung a sign:
"Last Name L-Z"
The whole process (including the drive there and back) took about 30 minutes. I still need to call my parents and thank them for my last name.
Posted by: Kirsten on November 2, 2004 03:29 PMBy the way, Georgia (or at least our little part of the Peach State) now uses the touch-screen voting.
Posted by: Kirsten on November 2, 2004 03:35 PMI can usually count on that, too, KBO. But get this. Here you get in line alphabetically BY STREET NAME. Then they have a list of all of the voters on your street. It seems really retarded.
Posted by: mrw on November 2, 2004 03:40 PMVoted at 6:30 this morning, at a location 2 blocks from my house. It took about 10 minutes in line. My wife had the same experience at 7:00. I felt good until I found out that my assistant nullified my votes for president and senator (!).

Looks good, but I'm staying very nervous.
JOEL!!! Your assistant voted for KEYES?!! A throw-away vote, but still...
Posted by: mrw on November 2, 2004 04:38 PMEasy as pie on the Upper West Side. In and out in about 15 minutes with no fuss or muss, the same old machines, and a stop at the school Bake Sale. And blogged about it, of course.
I long for information, but the news blackout is the right thing to do - remember the old days, when the election would be called before California got out of work. There are good ways around it; the day should be a holiday, on Presidential years at least, and the polls should be open for 24 simultaneous hours. But in the meantime, this is how it's gotta be.
I am more concerned that CNN is not covering the incident reports and machine outages, but that's a whole nother thing.
Posted by: Linus on November 2, 2004 05:21 PMSo, I didn't schedule any client appointments today since they are all on the other side of Atlanta from me, I DRAGGED my ass out of bed at 6 to get in line at the high school which is a 1/4 mile from me because I figured the lines would be crazy all day since the early voters in Metro Atlanta were waiting ungodly amounts of time (3-4++ hours)...It took me approx. 2 hrs. total . Steve on the other hand, left work, drove 25 minutes to the high school, voted and came home all within 45 minutes!!!!!!!!! I could have slept in....you know how much I LOVE my sleep!!!
The local news just showed the line at Mt. Zion High School and it looks like it is at least a half mile long, winding around like a ride at Disney...
I just pray that the winner is clear and it isn't dragged out and lawyers don't have to get involved...a half time show would have been good!
Posted by: Holly on November 2, 2004 05:42 PMI was relieved, but then a little nervous about seeing exactly 7 people in front of me in the M-Z line at the high school. I had friends wait 4 hours on Saturday to vote.
Opening a Sam Adams Boston Lager and getting ready for a long night. I'm sure somewhere someone else is popping open a Lonestar Beer.
