a fun game that i totally stole

En route to our Jersey shore extravaganza, Marietta pulled out a little clipping from Spin magazine with an interesting game. Now I'm stealing it from her and you must play along.

You have to assemble your ultimate band. You need to pick a lead singer, a guitarist, a bass player, a drummer and a wildcard that can play multiple instruments. You can't choose Elvis Presley or Sinatra as you vocalist. You can't choose more than one musician from a single band. You can't choose Hendrix as your guitarist or John Bonham as your drummer. The final rule is that the group has to be able to work together. A bit subjective, but I take it to mean that you can't pick Prince simply as your guitarist or Sting as your bassist.

I've changed mine about a thousand times. I'll post it in the comments, too, once I make up my mind.

Okay. Have at it!!

It depends on what kind of band you're talking about.

For example, a "British Invasion" supergroup could look like:

Eric Burdon, vocals
Pete Townshend, guitar
Bill Wyman, bass
Ringo Starr, drums

Or a "Monsters of Rock" group would be

Jimmy Page, lead guitar
Angus Young, lead guitar
Slash, lead guitar
Derek Smalls, bass
Keith Moon, drums

The Prog Rock era could be covered with

Peter Gabriel, vocals
Robert Fripp, lead guitar
David Rhodes, rhythm guitar
Keith Emerson, keyboards
Tony Levin, bass
Phil Collins, drums
Brian Eno, whatever

And the eighties would be suitably represented by

Robert Palmer, vocals
The Edge, lead guitar
Elliot Easton, rhythm guitar
Geddy Lee, bass and vocals
Rick Allen, drums

...and so on...

Cory took two of my choices (peart and mercury), so I had to come up with replacements...

Bass: Bill Wyman (Stones, of course)
Drums: Dave Groehl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters... More for his multiple talents than for his drums, but it's not like he can't keep a beat).
Guitar: Joe Satriani (Would have been Randy Rhodes but dead men can't jam.)
Keyboard: Ray Manzarek (the Doors)
Lead Singers: Geoff Tate (Queensryche... the guy has a five-octave range) and Annie Lennox.

I know, it's a bizarre group, but I like em.
