media overload

Thanks to my absurd buying habits and swell gifts while I was in the hospital I have a horrible backload of things to listen to/watch/read. I know. I know. It's not really a "problem" per se. It's just annoying. Here's what I have in process or needing processing.

CDs
Steve Earle - The Revolution Starts... Now
Elvis Costello - Almost Blue (Rhino 2 disc re-issue)
Elvis Costello - Goodbye Cruel World (Rhino 2 disc re-issue)
Elvis Costello - Kojak Variety (Rhino 2 disc re-issue)
Drive-by Truckers - The Dirty South
Bjork - Medulla
Various Artists - Por Vida: A Tribute to the Songs of Alejandro Escovedo (2 discs)
David Garza - A Strange Mess of Flowers (4 CD/1 DVD box set)

DVDs

The Station Agent
Purple Rain: 20th Anniverary Edition (I'm finished with the damn good special features disc)
Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary

Netflix
My Voyage to Italy
Good Bye, Lenin!
Nights of Cabiria

Books
A gigantic stack at my bedside

Someday I'll slog through it all...

A gigantic book stack? So you too bought the Clinton autobio, eh?

My current unlistened-to cd pile:

Rene Lacaille - Mapou (exotic!)
Los Lobos - Ride This (Marie Marie!)
Ray Charles - genius loves company (Ray!)
Tanya Donelly - whiskey tango ghosts (Tanya!)
The Streets - a grand don't come for free (Docklands accents!)
Tahiti - The gauguin years (Aural Tits!)
Donovan - beat cafe (Still So Groovie!)
Tilbrook - transatlantic ping pong (Haven't heard anything new of his in ages. Hope it's ok!)

(ps: yes, lots of over-the-hill stuff. i relate these days)
(pps: i put back the steve earle. sorry. i'm actioning for, not listening to, revolution this month!)
(ppps: has Orrin gone supernova over the latest Sloan?)
(pppps: you're very wrong about Scissor Sisters! They rule my world. Trannie used to live out here, once upon a dreamtime).

I'll vouch for "Ride This," Tanya and The Streets (so interesting as a whole project). I'm very curious about Tillbrook.

Scissor Sisters are just totally beyond me. It's bad ABBA meets bad Elton John meets bad Fischerspooner.

ohmygod... you people have waaaay too much time on your hands. Do you understand that I have had the same three Netflix movies sitting on top of my dvd player since November 2003. NOVEMBER 2003!!

I can't find time to sit through a two hour movie!

Oh, I think I need to cry.

I'm curious about the "Goodbye Cruel World" bonus tracks. Are there lots of solo live cuts like from the period bootlegs. "Motel Matches" on keyboard, etc.?
