randomness song of the week - 082904

In response to the rousing success of the mixtape project I've decided to do a little something weekly. Every Sunday I'll post the randomness song of the week. It might be new, it might be old. You might love it, you might hate it. For that matter, I might hate it. I'll simply post the song information and let you have at it.

All you crazy kids have to do is download the track and post something in the comments about what you thought of it. You must, however, post a comment if you download it. Them's the rules. I'll chime in with my thoughts each Friday. Sound like fun?

Okay gave it a listen. You know how well i know music, but i have to say I really liked the sound. I s the resty of the album like this?

Interesting choice, Mike, and one that really points up my overall problem with the Jayhawks. It sounds great, but it's so standard, so very routine in its construction. I like the band, but to my ears they rarely rise above themselves, and they generally aren't any more than the sum of their off-the-shelf parts. So you get a little of this mixed with a little of that, and I can never figure out just what they sound like. Pleasant while the record is on, but evanescent as soon as it's done.

But that's just me.

Linus, it's not just you.

I can't chime in until Friday (the rules, the rules) but I have a retort! I have a retort!

It sound like something I always liked and never knew what it is. Was afraid I would have to delete after downloading but it's a keeper for me. Anyone got the Atlanta Rhthym Section in the dirty weekend song (to me anyway) Only have vinyl and can't convert. Mis-tech-able

I guess I don't know where Linus and Dennis live, but out here in the midwest are main choise for music is Pop rock or Country. So when when I can discover a group like the Jayhawks that provide a DIFFERENT sound then the Jessicas, Brittany, and the rest of the ilk i get happy. Mike you know where I come from. We have a college radio in this town, and they don't even know what good music is. Christy is better at tearing down music to its basic matter. I willl make her listen to it so she can make a comment on this. Like the old saying goes, "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like." I am not smart about music, but if the rest of the album is just as good I will have find a way to buy it.

Speaking for my readers - Linus lives in NYC and Dennis in Chicago. Ergo their access to "good" music runs circles around your lil' Kalamazoo...

(Everyone say Kalamazoo. It's fun stuff)

I need to get ot Chicago more often. Can anyone otu there help my dumbass self find good music. Mike knows I am stuoid about htis subject. So if you tak to me go slow. For the first itme I have out my emial on this thing.

Nice choice, Mike.

Hearing that again made me pull "Sound of Lies" off the shelf.

It's in my CD rotation at work....after "The Dan Patrick Show", of course.

Sure, I live in NYC, but I simply don't take the time to get out and listen to good music often enough. With a regular weekend drive of three hours each way now, I need to get an iPod, download a ton of stuff like this, and listen on the road. Radios suck.

That said, I like this. Sure, it has some basic formulas to it, but it's nice to listen to at work (or probably in the car as well). Truth be told, I'm a sucker for something with a story in it that isn't about killing whitie or sleeping around for bling. I will confess to my love for Tori Amos and Sarah MacLachlan as well. And maybe, just maybe, I'll share some tracks from Inhouse - a local group from Florida that I like.

Enjoyed-- thankyee vuhrry much!

I've recently joined a music sharing gmail... THING (with actual Real People friends) where folks can send 1 song per day to everyone on the list (not like a filesharing program, more like a listserv.) If you're interested give me a shout, I think we've got about 20 participants right now. I'm being inundated with cool (and extremely diverse) music, it's a great way to discover what's in my friends' car stereos when i live a bazillion miles away.

Thanks again...
