Look. I'm not going to kid you. I love Target. There's something convienent yet not unchic about their wares and many of their stores. I'm not about to go this crazy, though, about the first store to open within the boroughs. I will, however, be pretty darn happy when the first branch in Fairfield County opens less than two blocks from the haus of randomness.
In true randomness fashion, though, I have to admit that I was a little dismayed to see that the Target Dog actually has the symbol on his face (tattooed?) and that it wasn't digitally added as I had assumed.
Posted by mikewolf at July 21, 2004 11:14 PMTarget - back when we first started calling it "tar-ZHAY" in 1988 in Dallas that passed for high original wit - can be a great store. I did much of my clothes shopping there for a while in Texas, which probably accounts for the state of my social life at the time. However, having glitterati at the launch is plain foolishness. Anyone think Chloe Sevigny is actually going to do her shopping there?
Bad sign for the company; had they invited an actual customer base, and left Gawker out, they'd have gone a long way to winning hearts and minds.
Posted by: Linus on July 22, 2004 09:39 AMDid you catch "60 Minutes II" last night? Great profile of Isaac Mizrahi, who designs a line of clothing for Target (in addition to zillion dollar gowns for Oscar-bound starlets). It was very funny.
Posted by: Kirsten on July 23, 2004 01:54 AMTarget will survive the onslaught of celebrity hipsters.
I wish I'd seen that profile on Isaac! He seems like such a fun, interesting person. The documentary Unzipped, about him working on a collection, is really good.
And I love his stuff at Target.

I got an invite to the Target opening. I don't know how. I think maybe because of my Paper subscription and my Williamsburg address? *I have no idea.*
We were totally going to go. Until I screwed up the date and realized we'd missed the party the night before when I read about it on Gawker.
