the devil's in the details

When I worked at a hardware store in high school we would close down for three days every summer to take inventory. It was a horrible task that obviously required a lot of time. Now I wish I could do the same. Close everything down at finish my CD inventory project.

It's been an arduous task over the last couple of months. I haven't been able to devote as much time as I'd like to it and the hours that I have allocated have been slow at best. Take a look at where I stand now. I'm only halfway through "J" along with a few stragglers that I've done as I've played them. I've inventoried just over 600 CDs which means that I'm only about a third of the way done. Insane.

I want to have a little contest with my collection (something about filling in the gaps) but can't until I can present the whole project to you wacky kids. Maybe by the end of the year? Or maybe not...

You had me right up to Hall and Oates. I mean come on, Hall and Oates??? I know we are products of the eighties, but there is so much better than, "Maneater."

1. It was a gift.

2. When they were on (and they often were) those boys could write some blue-eyed soul that had grooves a mile deep. I'll grant you that "Maneater" and "Family Man" are disasters.

3. I own almost 2,000 CDs. C'mon. There's more than a couple clunkers in my collection.

Mike, the simplest solution is to send me M-Z.

Besides Hall and Oates, which is your most embarrassing disk?

No Beatles before Rubber Soul?

And you need more Peter Gabriel.

I was a big Beatles fan when I was young so I have every album on vinyl (including my parents' copy of "Meet The..." which is literally falling apart) and haven't bothered to pick up most on CD because I simply know that they're going to be cleaned up and re-released any day now. That said, I swear I have a copy of "Abbey Road."

I have the melty face Gabriel, the car Gabriel and "So" on vinyl. To be honest, though, I don't find myself gravitating to his albums. I like them, but I don't often pull them out.

The most embarrassing? Hmm... I'll throw out the Hanson Christmas record and the two Fisher records because they were gifts. I'll reject the Huey Lewis record because it was from a CD club and I couldn't return it.

I'm pretty embarassed that I own any Barenaked Ladies records after "Gordon." At the end of the day, however, it has to be this. I can't even begin to describe why I bought it let alone why I paid over $50 for it...

That shortwave stuff is pretty cool, actually. Much of that stuff is actually transmissions from various spy centers to agents in the field. Very cloak-and-dagger, John le Carre stuff.

You should try to get the new remastered version of "PG Plays Live", at the very least.

I completely concure that it's fascinating. That's why I bought it. However, methinks six hours of the stuff is complete overkill.

Unless, of course, you are a spy.

Admit it, Wolfboy.
