So. It's frickin' hot. It's time to embrace your inner boozehound with a nice summer drink. I'm thinking that it's time to whip up some amaretto sours.
What's your favorite summer drink? Recipes encouraged...
Posted by mikewolf at June 26, 2003 09:13 PMMmmmmm... Vodka and Lemonade. The official drink of summer. My old roommate Darren and I used to go to one of the bars in the 'ville and sit on the patio with a pitcher of them. Country Time works best. Also de-lish with a splash of cheap beer in it (sounds awful, but it cuts the acidity).
Posted by: Kirsten on June 26, 2003 09:45 PMMargarita. And there's only one proper recipe -- equal parts of the following five ingredients:
1. Tequila
2. Water
3. Lime juice (that Key West brand, preferably)
4. Cointreau
5. Simple syrup (heat up some sugar with some water on the stove)
Serve with ice. Salt the glass? Oh, yes.
Purists will tell you that margaritas should not be sweet, and not be salted, but that's why purists make shitty margaritas.

1) Turn refrigerator down as low as you can without freezing your veggies
2) Get a cold 12 pack of Heineken
3) Take out of cardboard package, put in refrig
4) Enjoy
I also like a good Pina Colada, but don't ask for a recipe, I keep adding the ingredients until it tastes perfect, use the following:
Fresh Pineapple
1 can of Coco Lopez(cream of coconut) usually found in the baking aisle or with the drink mixes.
Bananas
Myers or Captain Morgans spiced Rum
Lots of Ice
Blend well
If you want to cheat, Myers makes a pre-mixed that is the best of best...
Be sure to drink and drive responsibly!
Posted by: Holly on June 27, 2003 07:38 AMMargaritas....ALWAYS! I make a pretty good one, but sitting on the patio at Zocalo on a hot Atlanta evening, drinking one of their tasty concoctions is hard to beat!
I've been making Sangria lately...here's a recipe for white Sangria that is particularly tasty:
3 cups pineapple juice
1 cup white grape juice
1 cup passionfruit juice
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
1 bottle Riesling or other slightly sweet white wine
1 (12-oz) can ginger ale
Combine first 5 ingredients in a large pitcher; chill. Add ginger ale, stirring gently.
Enjoy~

Perhaps my all time favorate summer drink does not have a name and I have no idea how to make it. A friend of a friend who has sence moved away used to make it for parties and refused to give up the recipe. I have tryed several times and only managed to make stuff so strong that about a half a glass is all you need and if you have more than that you are seriously sorry the next day.
This "punch" is made in a cooler and is a lovely shade of green. It also is very strong but does not taste very strong so the problem is that you sort of lose track of how much you have had. But hay isn't that what summer is for!!
I'm too predictable, but I have to say chilled white vino, or sangria. My current top fave white is an Italian varietal (did I say I was predictable?) from Cinque Terre. Absolutely perfect with anything grilled - seafood, or veggies. BTW, if you haven't tried grilled Okra, do it this weekend! Rub them down in olive oil and throw them on the grill. Even if you think you hate okra, I GUARANTEE you will like grilled okra. I tried it on some apprehensive people Wednesday eve and they all went manga-round-eyed with surprise. For sangria, always use a 'frizzy' (frizzante) wine, or add sparkling water to a Zinfandel. Plenty of fruit and juice. That's not a receipe, but it's how I make it. Whatever we got in the fridge...

Posted by: Cassie on June 27, 2003 03:30 PMBlackberry daquiris. Mmmm. I've not actually made one, but they've been made for me, using frozen blackberries. Ahhhhhh.
Posted by: LadyCrumpet on June 27, 2003 03:48 PMCassie, are you listening to Eric Burdon and War?
Posted by: dean0 on June 28, 2003 02:19 AMI love the Zocalo margaritas too, but be careful, they can make your legs buckle when you try to stand up.
Nuevo Laredo's kick ass too.
Posted by: Mark on June 28, 2003 12:16 PMBeer. Open can, pour down gullet. Repeat.
Posted by: D'Lish on June 30, 2003 03:00 PMNuevo Laredo's margs should come with a warning label.
