the matrix: overloaded

Look, I'm going to see the new installment of The Matrix at some point as, I assume, will most of you. However, is there really any reason that the freaking Angelika is showing it on four screens? It's the Angelika. C'mon!

That's really lame. They're just going for the big bucks. But if I'm going to see that movie in all its special-effect glory, I'll go to one of the superdeluxe monster theaters with the giant screens and stadium seating.

I second the Crumpet Lady. That is TOTALLY lame. The Angelika isn't even a good theater... seats uncomfortable, sound eh, sight lines eh. Especially for a movie like the Matrix where sound and screen size are important.

Exactly. The ambient sound of the subway rumbling underneath isn't really going to help, either.

Yeah, I agree! The Angelika sucks!

oh c'mon. i buy that it's sad that the angelika is showing the matrix. but the fine mistress shouldn't be dissed outright. it (normally) screens those more hard to find movies.

and it's on the same block as my office!

i have 1am tickets after the BABB. i have to figure out the coffee to alcohol ratio to make sure that i'm not hammered or running to the loo during the entire movie. else it gets bad.

i don't deny that angelika is good for movies that don't get screened many places... but for a movie like this?

Well, it is the "centerpiece of independent film exhibition in NYC." And nuthin' says indie film like a multi-zillion dollar keanu reeves in leather sci-fi thriller!

Oh, I completely agree. I've seen more films at the Angelika than any other theater in Manhattan (I've probably seen the most at the Tara in Atlanta). Sometime I'll share the wack-ass story of how I get in there...
