it's only a game, it's only a game

That's what I keep telling myself. No more playoff hockey for this boy. Mitch Albom, love him or despise him, says it best this morning...

Four times the Red Wings took their pride and power onto the ice against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, a team with a laughable name and a nonexistent tradition, and four times they skated off humbled. Wednesday night was the final indignity, a night when the Wings vowed they would show what they were about.

Here's what they're about: They're about home now, done for the year, the first team eliminated from this year's playoffs. The team got dressed. The plane took off.

And that's that.

At least I still have my beloved Tigers. Oh. Wait. They're 1-12.

The Tigers are 1-12, the worst 13-game start since the 1997 Cubs opened 0-14. It's the worst 13-game start by the Tigers since 1-12 in 1959. If they lose tonight to the Twins, they match their worst record after 14 games, set in 1920.

Too bad I'm not a bandwagon jumper. Too bad I hold my allegiances tight. Otherwise I'd be rooting for, I don't, Arsenal or something.

Better Arsenal than Man U.

As I've been saying to a few people today, My condolences on your Wings, man. That sucks. I was really pulling for them to make a good showing last night.

You're right about Mitch. He totally nailed it.

One more thing: I feel I should preface this by saying that my being a blues fan would for most of my "brethen" (Houser?) mean gloating and rubbing it in and what not.
That crap makes me sick. I usually frequent many a blues forum throughout the day, and it sickens me to no end the number of blues fans trolling for wings fans and boards to gloat. They make me sick.

I will say this for the "true" wing fans that i've met and known: They are a class act. Sure, they're always some rotten apples, but the large majority treat other fans, yes even myself, with great respect.

I hope, for the sake of good sportsmanship and a healthy rivalry, that my "adopted" team returns next season back to the form from whence they finished the last 20 games of the regular season.

PS 1 special plea. Don't hang up the skates, Stevie. Give us one more year. I think a cup may be your reward.
