Posted by: the evil queen on March 24, 2003 12:10 AMAhem!!!! who's your favorite Michigander??? I'm much, much cuter than Michael Moore, and though I've never produced a documentary, I do own a copy of "Take the Skinheads Bowling" on cd.
Posted by: K. Britt on March 24, 2003 09:36 PMWell, that was clearly just post-Oscar hyperbole. If push comes to shove my favorite Michigander is probably my grandfather, dontcha think?
Posted by: mrw on March 25, 2003 06:59 PMI have issues with the speech he made at Oscar. I do like his stuff, but he could have found a better more creative way of expressing his views. So I guess "shame" on you Michael Moore. He is a smart man, and for him to go low brow like that for me takes a lot of the meaning out of his views.
Posted by: Brad on March 26, 2003 11:50 AMI completely disagree and would have been very disappointed if he didn't take advantage of his moment in the spotlight.
Posted by: mrw on March 26, 2003 02:33 PMI just think he should have been more creative. I expected more from a guy who can come up with entertaing and thought provoking movies. Not to mention a great T.V. show that made fun of corporate America while being sponsored by some of the same companies. He had a chance I agree he had the right to do something with it. I just wish it was more creative.
Posted by: Brad on March 27, 2003 08:28 AMI am disappointed in you, my favorite Michigander. Do you love Michael Moore b/c he feels the way you do, or b/c he took a cheap shot when he could get it, using prime airtime for his own personal use? That was no place at all to spout off his views---why should I or anyone be subjected to his political rantings? Especially at an event like the Oscars, of all things. Totally inappropriate. I am not for the war, don't feel good about what's to come (what IS to come?), and I do'nt get Bush's single-mindedness in this pursuit of war, but shut the hell up Michael Moore! So there.
Posted by: kathleen on March 29, 2003 08:35 AMI love it when I get Kathleen all worked up :-)
Why was that an inappropriate place? The Oscars have a long history of being a platform for political opinion. I mean, did you really expect the night to be free of political ramblings? Did Michael offend more than Adrian Brody? The Oscar folks knew that they were going to have such a situation and made a statment that the recipients could say whatever they wanted "with their time."
I love Michael Moore because he's never really given a shite about what other people think. I don't always agree with his views and he sometimes has a problem with, um, facts. That said, I didn't think it was out of place.
And I also love my favorite North Carolinian - Kathleen :-)
