Creative Loafing (Atlanta's free newspaper) reports...

The Brake Pad - Sister location to the popular Oakhurst Universal Joint, the restaurant bar is the hangout for the growingly hip crowd in College Park. The bar food choices are augmented by interesting daily specials.

Hip crowd? College Park. Yeah. Right. Any Atlantans care to confirm this trend?

Why you hatin' MIke? Actually, it's funny that you mention The Brake Pad, as we were planning to have drinks there with a bunch of friends this Friday, but had to cancel. We go there quite often and the food and atmosphere are great (one of the few "local" spots where they have tables out front for when the weather is nice). College Park/East Point are changing and getting more desireable. People who can't afford in town, Grant Park, Highlands, etc. are moving in. There are a number of new restaurants and bars, lofts, art/antique shops. Now this is the old section of College Park, namely on and around main street, close to the Marta station. NOT the wasteland that is Old National/Riverdale Rd, where the new runway for Hartsfield is going in. There is a new convention center just minutes from the CP Marta station and there are a growing number of businesses moving in, hoping to cash in on the visitors. Oscar's was probably the first and once they moved in, and had some success, others followed. Even Hapeville is beginning a resurgence, with new restaurants, shops and downtown development. Believe it Mike.

We love the Brake Pad! The only problem is that it is too small. I get the feeling they try to have a good nightlife there and I'm sure Susan knows more about that than I. I will say that each time we go, there seems to be another cool loft building. Chuck tells me I need to move over there. I'm not quite ready for that yet.

Thanks for a great lunch yesterday. After reading about The Brake Pad on Randomness I had a hankerin' and forced the group to eat there. We sat outside under a big umbrella, drank the syrup they call tea and enjoyed the 70+ degree Springtime weather! (We didn't enjoy the two trains that came by blowing their horns so much.)

We think they should offer $1 pitchers when the train goes by, since conversation pretty much comes to a complete standstill.
