Okay. I've ripped and ripped and ripped. I still have about two gig of space left on the ol' Nomad. Here's what I'm carrying about now.
Help me out. What am I forgetting? What's not on my Nomad that you, my beloved readers, couldn't live without?
Now, if you say Billy Joel or Jimmy Buffett you should plan in advance for my retort :-)
Posted by mikewolf at February 25, 2003 12:19 AMwhat is going on over here? have you been trying to design while under the influence?
whoa. we should make stickers...friends don't let friends blog drunk. =)
Posted by: patricia on February 25, 2003 12:57 AMThe Nomad is your rolling around music, yeah? If so, perhaps a little more funk, dj science and loose obnoxious rock? At least these are the sounds of me moving.
I was going to start listing names, but intstead, maybe I'll load up that 750MB of file space I've got, with some MP3s for ya. Hmmm, let's see if I can somehow segue Gold Chains into some old Players Association....
Posted by: deano on February 25, 2003 01:25 AMNot that you care the first thing about MY music interests...
If you're want funk as Deano suggested, I've been in a Mother's Finest mood the last month (really bad since I seem to have lost their CD). Stop laughing. I mean it.
The only Billy Joel song that I can't live without is Rosalinda's Eyes from 42nd Street - it's awesome. Get over the Billy hate for that one.
Speaking of covers, I really love Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. They do great punk versions of all the 70's songs you hate. (Barry Manilow, The Carpenters, Elton John and probably even some Billy Joel and James Taylor.)
NO WORLD PARTY?!? - Who do you think you are? At least throw Goodbye Jumbo on there.
And what about that French song from Jeff Buckley? That's one of my favorites - go figure, I HATE French.
Tracy Chapman "Remember the Tinman" from "New Beginning", "Shooting Rubber Bands at the Sky" by Edie Brickell.
And of course, I should even talk to you with that Frank Sinatra crap and not a single Bing.
Posted by: Meredith on February 25, 2003 07:17 AMSo flustered, I couldn't write "Shouldn't talk to you..."
Posted by: Meredith on February 25, 2003 07:18 AMHoly hell! There's not an ounce of The Clash on my Nomad!!! How did that happen?!
Posted by: mrw on February 25, 2003 08:53 AMWhat about The Sensual World by Kate Bush?
And there is nothing beter than some Wagner when you are in a bad mood!
Well, for starts:
Neil Young: Live Rust
Neil Young: Freedom
Peter Gabriel: So
Peter Gabriel: Up
St. Etienne: Tiger Bay
St. Etienne: Good Humor
Juno Reactor: Shango
BT: Ima
The Corrs: Forgiven Not Forgotten
Eileen Ivers: Crossing The Bridge
Rachel's: The Sea and the Bells
Moby: Play
Tom Petty: Damn the Torpedoes
Tom Petty: Full Moon Fever
AC/DC: Back In Black
Crosby Stills Nash & Young: Deja Vu
Concrete Blonde: Bloodletting
Air: Moon Safari
That should fill up most of those 2 gigs....
Posted by: Frankenstein on February 25, 2003 09:48 AMThe Nomad has become more than just jetting about the city music. I also use it pretty much all day long at work while I'm coding and whatnot. That's the reason some quite soothing things like Piaf, Sinatra and Gershwin pop up.
Dmmm - My funk soul brotha. You're right. I have some stuff I can put on there. I'll check out the Gold Chains stuff, too.
Meredith - D'oh! Goodbye Jumbo at least, indeedy. Bing and Brother's Finest? Damn. You're turning into my father...
Paul - Excellent suggestions! Thanks. I do own most of those, believe it or not. My Neil collection runs more toward the less dischordant - Harvest era - but I could do some of the Live Rust stuff. Petty needs to go on there for sure. I'm down with So but I can't get Up. St. Etienne and Air are certainly good at work choices. Concrete Blonde I think I own, as well. Lastly, AC/DC. Nice. See, I can rock at times....
Posted by: mrw on February 25, 2003 10:02 AMHey, if Meredith is turning into your father, can I be your mother? Wait, let me rephrase....ME FIRST! They also cover 60's classics, deemed sacred by everyone. A wild version of 'Runaway,' 'Elenor,' etc. Check out "Blow In The Wind." Sure, this is a slightly tired trick, but I think that's half their point.
3 Gold Chains songs are up. Go to my blog & click the mp3 button. The future of rap is a short, slightly dumpy white guy, with thinning hair and stax o wax. He collaborates with Joshua Kit Clayton, so the dj science is on the weird and wonderful side. 'Rock The Parti' is mega headphone-2your-earbone satisfaction!
Posted by: deano on February 25, 2003 11:20 AMI'm currently adding The Minus 5 and The Shins, if anyone cares...
Posted by: mrw on February 25, 2003 01:49 PMand *why* do you only have little earthquakes? tori's other albums are good too. but i'll give you credit for that. other than that, you've got r.e.m. ... so you're good to go.
Posted by: trista on February 25, 2003 10:22 PMGreat picks, all.
I have three artists I'd like to see on the list-2 great bands from the distant past, and a recent album omission.
1. I'd like to see some Velvet Underground.
2. Also, I think you need more Love in your life. Maybe some "Alone Again Or" and "Always See Your Face". Great, great band.
and finally...
3. I like your choice of the Lips "Yoshimi", but can you seriously leave "The Soft Bulletin" off your list? I hope not, for your sake.
I have VU & Nico ripped. I just didn't think I'd listen to it that often. Perhaps...
Soft Bulletin is actually there now. I need to update the file on the my server.
Is this where I admit that I don't really "get" Love? Wow. That sentence speaks volumes. Anyhow, I like "Little Red Book" but it doesn't really do a whole lot for me otherwise...
Posted by: mrw on February 26, 2003 05:35 PMGood. I can rest easy.
As for Love, it is an acquired taste(...the band, I think?).
Hank Jr? Hank III? And not a single Hank Williams?
What the hey?
Posted by: Allan on March 2, 2003 06:53 PMGood point, Allan. Frankly, I'm not sure where the Hank, Jr. came from. Oh. Wait. One of the Johnny tributes.
Hank Sr. is actually the only Hank I really like. Jr. is mildly entertaining from time-to-time. Hank III's voice makes me, well, insane.
