luck runs out

Bad luck, that is. That is, I hope...

No time for a full recap, just enough to share my pain. Yeah. I know. I'm pathetic... Anyhow...

1) Got a letter yesterday denying my appeal for my wheelchair. I'll start working up the food-chain on Monday. That's just ridiculous but I'm afraid I may be stuck. Any insurance veterans have advice? Paige? Christy?

2) Received this letter after backing out of the parking garage in the rental car and SMACKING THE FUCKING MIRROR THAT STICKS OUT 50 MILES ON THE PILLAR NEXT TO THE CAR. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. Sorry for the potty mouth. Paige, is Geico gonna drop me? I did NOT pay for the rental insurance. If it's not much more than my deductible I don't think I even want to report it to Geico. There's no door damage or anything, I just tapped the mirror and it POPPED RIGHT OFF. Unfortunately, Enterprise insisted on getting my insurance info. I need to start in with Enterprise on Monday, too.

So basically I added $4500 to my credit card bill this weekend. Yaaaaay. I love debt.

Somethings DID go well. Had a nice holiday, got my car back and they did a beautiful job.

Updates on that tomorrow after I take the parents to LaGuardia. I just need some help here, kids.

ok. BREATHE.

a) I'm clueless when you say your 'appeal for your wheelchair." does this have to do with the auto accident? Was your chair damaged in the accident? If it's something unrelated to the auto accident, something through your medical carrier, I'm afraid I can't be of much help. If your chair was damaged in the auto accident, though, I would think that would be covered along with everything else.

b) No, they won't drop you for that mirror thing. How much can a mirror cost, anyway? A couple hundred bucks? I don't think they'd even raise your premium for that. But yes, if you can manage it, your best bet is to completely reimburse the rental people for the damage without going through your carrier at all. Either way, I think you're ok. Really not a biggie. Unless, of course, there was a small child standing behind the mirror at the time and you knocked him down as well. Then we've got problems.

inhale... sorry, sorry. i was freaking out last night. so sorry.

anyhow, no, Paige, the wheelchair was the whole denied claim that you must have missed. I don't know why I asked you that. It's not related to the car. There was no other damage to the car and the only person I ran over deserved it. Oops! Did I say that?

Anyhow, I hope I'm going to be okay. I mean, the first one wasn't my fault, right?

And, Paige put it in perspective off-blog, I'm alive. I have my car back. I'll shut up now.

dealing with insurance sucks. i think i've been through about 5 different carriers in the last 10 years for home, auto, etc. when we had our first kid, my insurance from a previous employer paid for the hospital bill. they would have never known the mix-up if we hadn't brought it to their attention. what do you get for honesty? nothing.
