I really don't feel like reliving the whole thing right now but a drunk guy in a huge van turned in front of me and another car and drove right off. Some good samaritan followed him and called the police. He was arrested. He hit my car and one other. Mine was damaged the worst but the cops told me I could drive it home. It's awful. Not totalled, obviously, but a lot of front damage. If I hadn't been wearing my seltbelt, well, I don't want to think about that. My airbags did not diploy which, in this case, is a blessing.

It could well be totaled even if you can drive it. (I was an automobile insurance claims adjuster for four years). Which actually might turn out to be to your advantage, depending on the age of the car. if the repairs exceed market value, it's totaled.

Geezus. Take it easy the rest of the day, ok? And if you have any insurance questions, I'm your girl. I'm sending more virtual latkes your way.

That's what enrages me about drunk drivers. They think they can handle it, and that they're responsible for their own selves. But they don't consider the danger they are to others. By now, everyone's aware of the dangers of driving drunk. There's no excuse. They should have their driving privileges revoked for life.

oh, and according to the other driver who was involved in the accident (a super, super sweet hispanic girl with her puppy and her non-English speaking mother. She'd just adopted the puppy and was on her way to get him a bed) he was also on his cell phone.

Glad to hear that you're okay. What a scare. How are going to get around? I doubt rental companies have cars equipted for you. Weren't you recently saying that you wanted a new car? Looks like that decision's been made for you.

I can get a rental car with hand controls. It just takes a bit of time. That ol' ADA is good for something at least. I hope I can get one tomorrow. Don't know yet if the guy had insurance. I'll find that out later this week. The cop told us it would be Wednesday before we could get a copy of the police report which, to me, seems way too long.

I can't believe you'd WANT a mini after being hit by a van. That big ol' honkin' engine at the front of your car is a HUGE safety factor in accidents. A mini would be crushed like a beer can at a Skynyrd concert.

My car was totaled in my accident this past January, but I was driving an 83 Toyota Celica. Didn't take much to total that.

I'm doing fine, Tiff. Thanks. Just picked up the rental car - A gigantic Dodge Intrepid - a car that appropriately shares its name with a boat (the U.S.S. Intrepid is docked in the Hudson here).

Mike, I am so glad you are okay, that asshole SHOULD lose his driving priveledges for life, if that was the sentence for all DUI's, it would make people think twice...

Be sure you have the frame checked for damage as well, when I got in an accident with my Maxima(2 weeks after I got it-way back when), they didn't check mine and my steering wheel has never been perfectly straight even with perfect tire alignment...
