Painting the Town Red

My pal and frequent commentator Dennis will be here next week hanging out for Thanksgiving. Yaaaay. I told him that nothing other than nice restaurants and bars happen around my neighborhood. Boy. Was I wrong.

Check this out! Hall & Oates AND Meatloaf on back-to-back nights! We were planning on spending all of our time in the City. Best start rethinking that!

Uh. You know I'm kidding, right? I wouldn't be opposed to walking down the street to see Joan Baez, Dr. John or B.B. King, though, if the tickets were cheap.

Ahhhh... you mock me. I'd kill to see the Loaf in concert. He's from CT, isn't he? Oh, and Leon Redbone! Now THAT's a concert!

Easy on Hall & Oats. That was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I saw them at the Tabernacle. I sat on the second level, stage left, hanging over the bass player. John Oats was throwing guitar picks out to the crowd. I'd been trying to get one all night. I finally got his attention and he threw one to me. He's no outfielder though, so it didn't get to me. (Later I found out that my 6'7" cousin yanked it out of the air over my head.) Anyway, the bass player was watching and for some reason thought the pick had hit me in the forehead. When they went off stage for their first fake "we're leaving now," they had to go right under me to get backstage. The bass player looked up at me, pointed to his forehead and shouted, "Are you OK?" Awwwww, sweet guy. During the actual last song, I got John's attention again and he threw me literally the LAST pick. YAY! Oh, and they sounded great too.

Eh, I can be easy on Hall & Oates. I would never go see them and Darryl Hall is an asshole of epic proportions. However, some of what they did they did really well. And "Adult Education" always makes me laugh...

Well Mike, I've seen Meatloaf. Right after the first album came out he did a show sponsored by a local radio station and tickets were only $1.06 (in association with WWWW 106.7 FM). The good thing was that Ellen Foley was still in the band. What's the deal with Daryl Hall being an asshole? I've never been much of a H&O fan but I really do like Hall's Sacred Songs.

Yeah, I don't know any story on him being a jerk. Fill us in...

Okay, okay. I can cut Mr. Loaf some slack, too.
"Bat Out of Hell" was a fine, fine album in its time. Releasing the same album with slightly different lyrics for 20 years is a bit much, though.

You kids have never seen Mr. Hall interviewed, obviously. He's a real ass. Think Ryan Adams ass. Maybe he's better no, I dunno. I like "Sacred Songs" and, believe it or not, I also like "Dreamland" in a macabre way.
