Movie theatres suck

Went to see "The Good Girl" tonight. Liked it a lot. Rachel, oops, Jennifer was actually quite good. A completely different character than you'd ever imagine she could pull off. Anyhow, the theatre was chock-full of geriatrics. Many people were talking in conversational voices like it was their living room or something. Grr... Only theatres in the East Village for me for now on.

Just saw The Good Girl. I enjoyed it as well. I fared a little better in the company department. Just me and a few other women. Quiet crowd.

A few months ago I went to see 'Y tu mama tambien' which much to my surprise had a lot more full frontal nudity than I expected. The theater was also 'chock-full of geriatrics' which seemed incredibly funny to me because I'm secretly a 13 year old boy. Halfway through a nude scene an old lady woke up and demanded to know what was happening. She was quite loud and didn't seem to realize it. The people around her seemed too embarrassed to answer her question so the old woman finally gave up asking and just said, "Never mind. You can explain it all to me later."

God. I wish I'd been around for that conversation.

Ha! That's the best. I have a "Y tu mama" story that's very similar. I saw it at the mall, which is funny in itself, and I was going up in the elevator with chatty older woman (avoiding the geriatric term. bad karma...). Asked what I was going to see. I told her and she said that she was, too, and commented about how happy she was that "something with good reviews" was playing at the mall. I think it goes without saying that I saw her walk out after about 20 minutes...

Did you think there was about zero character development in "TGG," Patricia? Good but not much to it.

I don't think there was any character development. She started out being resigned and feelign trapped by her life. I believe she ended the movie that way. Would you agree?

I found the movie to be quiet and slow. A good change to all the summer hyped movies. Not something I'd go see again (even if i can get in for free), but it was interesting to see anniston shed her rachel persona. I had a little trouble seeing the attraction to the kid. bit too scruffy, greasy and confused for my taste.

did learn two things though. in life it's bad to: 1. steal and 2. be disturbed.

i completely agree. it wasn't exactly a feel-good hit. left pretty much exactly as we found it.

Things I love about Alfonso Cuaron:

1. The fact that he is going from directing "Y Tu Mama" to directing the next Harry Potter film.

2. His quote on the sex scenes in "Y Tu Mama": "[The sex scenes] are very short because the sex is very bad. The sex in the film is bad, clumsy and fast. It's teenage sex."

3. His film "A Little Princess," which is great, and which I own on VHS. (BTW, is this the sort of information I shouldn't disseminate freely, Mike?)
