Trees = fire?

Read this... What the hell is wrong with the world? We're going to relax environmental regulations so that trees don't burn? WTF? We've begun to develop neighborhoods in the middle of what was recently old-growth forests. So in order to protect our wrong-headed suburban sprawl we should denude the entire country? Last time I checked, most of the fires this year were set by people, not those pesky sparking trees.

Come to think of it, we'd have a lot less traffic fatalities if we got rid of those pesky roads, W. Jackass.

It doesn't really matter anymore. Without drastic action (like maybe culling 99% of the human race) the planet will be dead by the end of the century. All of these old white men that run our country don't care about future generations.

Let it all burn. Let it all end in fire!
(any other B5 fans out there?)

Poor Dubya. He's missing a golden opportunity here. You don't just cut all the trees down... You have to PAVE over all the national parks, so that not only will the logging industry make their money, so will the Asphalt manufacturers.

Oh, yeah... and I almost forgot. Isn't it politically incorrect for Dubya to want to put firefighters out of work? They're national heroes, for God's sake... and now he wants to just kick 'em to the curb!

Tiffany's right. But isn't there a better way to eliminate the human species, without also taking out all the relatively successfully evolved woodland ones?

I guess the culling only around existing communities is some form of compromise. However, I also feel they'll figure out loopholes to do what they want to anyway. Here's the NRDC position, if anyone is interested:

They also have a Take Action suggestion. Mike, you're a Take Action sorta guy, ain't ya?

dmmm -

I am and I did. Thanks for the info.

The entire argument, to me, is just completely absurd. We're having more forest fires due to environmental changes which are most likely man-made. So, in order to solve that, we're going to doze over a few hundred thousand acres. Am I missing something here? Surely I must be...

Hey, I'm all for culling humans w/o impacting other species. I'd be the first in line if such a program were implemented. Point to any environmental problem and the root cause will be overpopulation. Humans are out of control.

I took action - thanks for the link!

BTW Mike, B5 = Babylon 5 (sci fi show/major Tiffany obsession)
